Dr. Gary Burkhart, Owner and Dentist

Why do I need regular dental checkups?

We like a dental checkup to be completed at least once every six months so we can detect problems when they're small rather than waiting until they become a catastrophe.

How often should I have a dental checkup?

The bare minimum is once every six months. Unless you have a current dental problem, then feel free to contact our office at (570) 799-9309, and we'll schedule an examination.

Can dental checkups prevent oral health issues?

Of course they can. We can detect problems at an early stage and determine appropriate treatment for your dental problem. During a dental checkup, we will look at your soft tissue, your gums, and your teeth to determine if there are any problems that we need to address.

Is a teeth cleaning included at the time of your dental checkup?

It depends on the condition of your mouth. Sometimes it will be yes, and sometimes you may need more comprehensive care, like a deeper cleaning due to gum disease.

Are dental x-rays included in a dental checkup?

In most cases, yes, dental X-rays are part of your dental checkup. This is because we can't always see what is going on between your teeth, under existing crowns or fillings, and we like to determine if there are areas of bone loss due to gum disease.

What is the dentist looking for during my dental examination?

I am looking for anything that is abnormal or nonoptimum for your overall health and your ability to chew foods that you like to eat.

How long does a dental checkup take?

It depends on the current condition of your mouth. It can be determined by the quantity and quality of dental X-rays that we need to take.

Do dental checkups hurt?

In most cases, no. We are not trying to hurt you. We are trying to determine problem areas that require dental treatment.
